Chand Baori - The Deepest Step Well in the World - Really Amazing Pictures

Chand Baori is famous step well situated in the village of Abhaneri near Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajisthan. This step well is located opposite Harshat Mata Temple. It was built in the 9th Century and have 3500 narrow steps and 13 stories and is 100 ft deep according to information available on wikipedia.

It is a fine example of the architectural excellence prevalent in the past and also considered as a practical solution to the water problem in that area. The arid climate forced the locals to dig deep for a dependable water source, one that would last throughout an entire year.

Built in the 10 century in Abhaneri India the Chand Baori well was a great solution for the water problems back then...also...the amazing step wall building is a great example of the architectural excellence present in India a millennium ago...that folks is a very long time ago...methinks the twentieth century is not all it is made out to be at times
